It was in the 14th century that the first windmill was erected to what is now Estonia.
1892 built Rätsepa post windmill is one of the biggest in Hiiumaa, one of the two still
remaining in the village of Harju. After peasants were allowed to have windmills of their


own the mills became a symbol of economical independence.
