The Estonian Orthodox congregation of Tartu joined together in 1845. Building the
church was the priest’s main worry and it was inaugurated on September 2 in1870 in
honour of St. George, Jüri in Estonian. Patriarch of Moscow and all the Russia Aleksii II
had his very first job in that church after graduating from the theological academy.
