To isolate the Baltic Sea provinces of German background from Prussia’s influence
Russian was made the language of bureaucracy and education. Thanks for that the
state gave the schools operating by the Orthodox churches quite a lot money which
again boosted the level of these schools. By the 1920s going Orthodox had become
unfashionable though and by 1994 the church had become so decayed the dangerously
hanging roof had to be taken down.
