It has lost all its bark over the last thousand years for this is how old people believe it
is. Pilgrims arrived to Kuremäe all have thought the oak’s bark has a healing virtue and
they all have wanted a piece of it. It is a habit for Orthodox pilgrims to walk around the
tree clockwise and cross themselves at the same time.
