The Botanical Garden of the University of Tartu was founded in 1803, near what is now the Vanemuine Old Theatre House. In 1806 the garden was relocated to more suitable site, on the ruins of the ancient city wall and fortifications near the river and ponds.
Open every day from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. (in summer 9 p.m.)
Visitor’s Centre and green-houses from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Tartu Old Observatory, which used to be one of the world's most important centres of astronomy, is a pearl among the Estonian research facilities. In 2005, its Struve Geodetic Arc was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list.
