The Medieval convent of the castle is the only one in the Baltics that have survived
without any significant re-constructions being done to it which, from the architectual
aspect, gives it an international importance. Having been erected in the 13th century it
had 1650 soldiers serving there in its glory days in the end of the 17th century.
