Being the only 18-hole course in the Baltics during the 90s, Niitvälja as the location-name has become the synonym of golf in Estonia and is called the home of Estonian golf.
Niitvälja golf course was first opened in 1993 with 9 holes and a wide variety of practice facilities. The 18- hole course designed by Swede Åke Persson was opened in 1994. The first course had a mixture of Park-course holes and inland links holes but in 2006 with the help of an English golf architect Peter Chamberlain 5 new holes were created, turning the whole course into a pure Park-course. With the added water hazards it can be said that Niitvälja is now defined by testing holes and plenty of beautiful ponds – a true park. The signature hole is a par five running along a water hazard and finishing with island green.
Niitvälja challenges players of different ages and abilities. Although the course cannot boast with big altitude differences, its mildly sloping landscapes, numerous water hazards and fairways lined by dense forest make the play interesting and require a precise playing strategy. The game has to be well planned according to the golfer`s level, otherwise a ball will be sacrificed to the Water Fairy or the undesired additional stroke has to be made. The course makes the game enjoyable thanks to its fully mowed area that makes finding the balls easy.
Niitvälja still boosts the largest number of practice facilities in the region consisting of three putting, two chipping and two pitching greens, 30-place driving range, new driving range area under roof and a nine-hole natural mini-golf course.
The Hole in One restaurant in the Niitvälja clubhouse seats up to 200 people.
