Keava fortress is built on a cape, protected from both sides by higher walls and ditches and it also has a wall on the sides. The inner part of the wall forms a gentle dredge which resembles the “bed of Kalevipoeg.” Fort hill is situated in the middle of fields close to Linnaaluste village and there a beautiful view opens up to the villages in the area. It is thought that Keava fortress was one of the largest centres in Estonia during the Viking era and it was conquered by the Grand Duke of Russia Izyaslav in 1054.
The archeological excavations in 2000 have brought about from under 70 cm of cultural layer chips of pots, sauna stones, pieves of limestone and animal bones.
