Introduction:

The attraction of Padise Monastery does not consist merely in its mediaeval body, i.e. the ruins, but rather in its spirit and soul. While walking in between the stone walls it must be borne in mind that the Cistercian monks who founded the monastery acted based on the ideas of Clairvaux Bernard, the spiritual father of their Order and one of the greatest thinkers and mystics of the Middle Ages. You can find the figure of St. Bernard cut into stone in the monastic church itself. Today you can have a look at the ruins of the monastery and listen to the history thereof on a guided tour.
Interesting to know: Thanks to the good acoustics and special aura the church hall of the mediaeval Padise Monastery is known as an excellent place to hold concerts.
