Alam-Pedja Nature Conservation Area was created in 1994 and it is one of the biggest conservation areas in Estonia. Alam-Pedja Nature Conservation Area is a large lowland in the centre of Estonia. The main values of the area are its ecological diversity, different swamp communities and rivers. The uniqueness of the conservation area lies in its old rivers, the structure of its forest communities and extraordinarily low number of population. Alam-Pedja Nature Conservation Area has belonged among wetlands of international significance (Ramsar areas) since 1997 and among Natura 2000 bird and nature areas since 2004.Two hiking tracks of different length with viewing towers have been established for people interested in nature.
